Heading to Portugal!

After almost two months enjoying ourselves in Fernandina Beach, Florida, Cathy (the Princess) and I are heading to Virginia for a few days and then we’re off to Lisbon, Portugal to begin walking the Camino Portuguese. We plan to fly in to Lisbon and take a train to Santarem, Portugal to begin our walk. This will allow us to avoid the industrial area around Lisbon and also let us get into Santiago on Easter Sunday – assuming all goes according to our plan.

Despite our best efforts, we have not spent as much time preparing for this walk, so we’ll see how it goes. When we hiked the Camino Frances in 2012 we did much more walking and hiking to prepare ourselves. This year we have been spending so much time with our grandsons in Fernandina Beach that we have not logged as many training miles as we should have. Our hiking plan for the Camino Portuguese this year has us doing no more than fifteen miles per day for the first week. Hopefully that will help us ease into the walk, which will cover over 500 kilometers (about 300 miles) in twenty-three days.

We hope you will follow us as we walk the Camino Portuguese on our blog at He Walks She Strolls. We will start updating our Camino Portuguese adventure on the blog in the next few days.

About The Man in My Shoes

Since retiring in 2012 I am enjoying the freedom of being able to make my own decisions about how I spend my time and am taking advantage of the opportunities that I have to spend more time with my family, explore, learn, and pursue my dreams and goals. I look forward to writing about these pursuits and hope you enjoy reading about them.

  2. Looks wonderful! Just as an FYI, I see your name in the Appalachian Trail for your hike last year. You have also inspired Roger and I so we are going on a walk thru Italy (just 8 days) this fall. Have a great time!

    • Jay, I know that you and Roger will love the walk in Italy. Cathy and I are interested in doing a walk there called ‘Cinque Terre’. It may be the same one you are doing. We’ll be interested to hear all about your experience there.
