Let’s Go Outside

The weather is beautiful here in the Blue Ridge and the Go Outside Festival is happening this weekend in Roanoke. The Princess and I attended the festival last year and had a great time – she left with a new bicycle.

I am helping build a timber frame structure this weekend and cannot get to the festival but it reminds me that it is such a terrific time of year, my favorite time, to get outdoors. My friend Joe is camping and fishing in the St. Mary’s Wilderness this weekend and others will be getting out to the mountains to enjoy the great weather. I hope that wherever you are you have a chance to get outside for a good walk, hike or bike.

Timber framing is something I’ve been interested in for years and this is the fourth time I’ve been involved in the building of a timber frame structure. I won’t be able to go hiking this weekend but I will be outdoors in a beautiful setting trying to improve my skills. Here’s a photo from a previous timber framing project…you can click on it to make it bigger.

About The Man in My Shoes

Since retiring in 2012 I am enjoying the freedom of being able to make my own decisions about how I spend my time and am taking advantage of the opportunities that I have to spend more time with my family, explore, learn, and pursue my dreams and goals. I look forward to writing about these pursuits and hope you enjoy reading about them.

I don’t have any idea of what timber framing is, but it looks like it might entail some good old-fashion hard work. I know you enjoy that and on such a beautiful Autumn day. You have inspired me to enjoy the outdoors out here today in hopefully sunny CA (after the fog clears). Yesterday at 6:15 a.m., as I was driving along the coast, the most beautiful Autumn full moon reflected over Santa Monica Bay just above the horizon. It was such a magical sight. Turns out, I wasn’t the only person who saw it, and throughout the day we shared our experience. Have a wonderful day!
